The show officers – the big coincidence!

The show officers – the big coincidence!

Interestingly, the current Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer were all born within a few months of each other into three villages surrounding Claremorris and all have virtually the  same memories of attending the first show “sometime in the sixties”. All have wide experience of interacting with the general public down the years, be in their work or the voluntary sector.

Chairman Tom Connolly or “Councillor Tom” as he is often referred to has been involved in numerous local committees and organisations including the Saint Patrick’s Day parade committee. He has served the area as a Fine Gael member of Mayo County Council for the past 19 years. Indeed, he officially opened the 2019 Show in his capacity as the Cathaoirleach of the Claremorris Municipal District.

Secretary Maureen Finnerty is often referred to as “the brains behind the Claremorris Show” and rightly so as for numerous years she has played a pivotal role in the success of the event. Much of her work goes on behind the scenes throughout the year interacting with organisations like the Irish Shows Association and others. Over the years she has also been involved in organising events like the Claremorris summer festivals and Saint Patrick’s Day parade.

Treasurer Michael McGrath has been involved in various aspects of athletics over the years including organising the NCF/Claremorris 10K and was chairman of Mayo AC for 10 years from 2006. He has been a show treasurer for about 18 years.
